With the holiday season on approach, you are undoubtedly looking forward to parties, celebrations, and time with friends and family. While there is nothing wrong with kicking back and enjoying yourself by indulging with a drink or two, our attorneys want to spread a message to keep safe during the holidays. The holiday season that runs between the end of November and the beginning of the New Year proves to have the most car accident fatalities caused by drunk driving. Due to this fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) promotes their “Don’t Wreck the Holidays” campaign.
The NHTSA wishes to remind all Americans that even one drink can cause you to drive with limited capacities and can cause a drunk-driving accident. During recent years, the following have happened during the holiday season:
- In 2013, there were nearly 1,500 fatalities during the holiday season due to drunk driving
- Between 2009 and 2013, upwards of 4,000 drunk driving fatalities occurred between Thanksgiving and New Years Day
Protect Your Family from Drunk Driving Dangers
In order to ensure that you and your family are safe while celebrating, our attorneys encourage you to always have a plan when you’re attending a party. Determine who will drive and ensure that said person doesn’t consume even one drink. If it is not possible to have a designated driver, plan to spend the night, seek public transportation, or book yourself a taxi or Uber in order to get home safely.
